History and Expansion of Cleaning Doctor and The Clean
Team
Where it all began
In 1985 William Little was working in a boring clerical job
that paid peanuts and so he went seeking some kind of business
for which there would be a continuous need. He also wanted
to avoid High Street rent and rates, and expensive stocks
of equipment. Equally important he wanted a flexible business
that paid at the end of the job. He investigated many ideas
and finally he was attracted to a cleaning operation; he
embarked on a life changing experience.
The new business flourished
Within a few months he was making in three or four jobs what
he had been working for all week and he soon realised that
the cleaning business was very profitable. His business
expanded and so he invested in some new equipment to improve
the service to his customers. He began attending all the
appropriate training courses in order to develop his new
business to a more professional level. His business flourished
through an unprecedented level of client satisfaction.
Repeat business came quickly and new business soon followed
through customer referrals, recommendations and unique
marketing strategies that he was starting to develop. William
was now taking the cleaning business very seriously and
his approach of top class professionalism was to become
his stock in trade and to govern every aspect of his business.
Further development
Before long, a UK equipment and chemical supplier asked William
to become its sole distributor for the whole of Ireland.
Once again his professional enthusiastic and dedicated
approach paid dividends and the turnover in his first year
as the new distributor was 11 times that of the previous
year of the UK distributor. Product knowledge and his sincere
direct and knowledgeable approach made him one of Ireland's
most reputable stockists of quality cleaning products.
Totally Committed
William Little was now totally committed. His experiences
had shown him that, with a dedicated professional approach,
the cleaning business was capable of much greater development
that he had previously thought possible. Having assisted
many entrepreneurs into cleaning, he found that some were
successful but many did not bother training or developing
their skills and because of this they had little knowledge
and never promoted themselves professionally. As a result,
William knew that if he could develop and lead a team of
committed, like-minded people, who were well presented and
delivered a professional service, clients would have all
the reasons why they would call his professionals first,
and that both he and his team of professionals would benefit
from the boundless potential available in the industry.
The Cleaning Doctor franchise was born
After years of being directly involved in every aspect of
cleaning and having sourced the best equipment and training
available anywhere, William Little decided to give others
the opportunity to emulate his success through franchising.
He developed the Cleaning Doctor brand and its concept
of operations. William designed and developed some very
exclusive marketing techniques and included the themes “The
Committed Cleaning Professionals” and “Cleaning
For Your Health and the Indoor Environment” into
his marketing strategies.
To see how the concept would work in practice, a small number
of pilot franchisees swung into action in June 1998. The
franchise operation was further formulated and fine-tuned
with the guidance of professional consultants. The new Cleaning
Doctor franchise proved to be resounding success.
Cleaning Doctor Expansion
The success was repeated and the decision was taken to establish
the Cleaning Doctor network to cover all of Ireland. Having
established a firm presence in both Northern Ireland and
the Republic of Ireland Cleaning Doctor embarked on an
expansion into the GB market. It is clear from feedback
by franchisees from all parts of the UK and Ireland that
the Cleaning Doctor franchise is a resounding success.
The Clean Team Franchise Developed
Due to customer demand and also a demand from females who
wanted to become part of the Cleaning Doctor Network, but
who felt that the Cleaning Doctor equipment was too heavy
for them to handle, William Little developed The Clean Team
franchise option. This franchise, which is very well suited
to people who wish to concentrate on domestic cleaning services,
has been a resounding success for the franchisees that have
joined the network.
